Former Wales prop Adam Jones is set to bolster Warren Gatland’s coaching staff for the upcoming 2025 Six Nations tournament as a scrum consultant. The 43-year-old currently serves as the scrum and transition coach for Harlequins and has been given permission by his club to take on this new role temporarily.

Adam Jones Joins Wales Coaching Staff

Jones will officially link up with the Welsh squad after Harlequins face Northampton in the Gallagher Premiership on Friday, 24 January. His tenure with Wales will last until the Six Nations finale against England on 15 March in Cardiff. The first game of the campaign will see Wales facing off against France in Paris on Friday, 31 January.

Jones Aids Former Coach Jonathan Humphreys

In his new position, Jones will be supporting his former Ospreys coach, Jonathan Humphreys, who currently serves as the Wales forwards coach. Despite his commitment to Wales, Jones will also continue to provide assistance to Harlequins remotely during the tournament. Additionally, psychology and human performance specialist Andy McCann has been added to the backroom staff to further enhance the team’s coaching setup.

A New Challenge for Jones

Expressing his excitement about this new opportunity, Jones thanked Harlequins for allowing him to be a part of the Wales coaching team for the Six Nations. He acknowledged the rapid pace of this transition and highlighted the learning curve he anticipates while coaching at the international level for the first time.

“It’s going to be a challenge coming from the Gallagher Premiership, and this is my first taste of coaching international rugby, so there will be a learning process for me as well,” Jones shared. “I’m looking forward to working with Gats and Humphs, who are two big influences on my career as a player.”

Jones, who boasts an impressive rugby career with 100 international caps and multiple titles, brings a wealth of experience to the coaching role. He has already made significant contributions to the development of players at Harlequins and is poised to make a positive impact on the Welsh squad during the Six Nations.

Overall, the addition of Adam Jones to Wales’ coaching staff is a promising sign of growth and improvement as the team prepares to face formidable opponents in the upcoming tournament.
