Rob Howley Takes Over as Wales Attack Coach

Rob Howley has been appointed as the new attack coach for Wales’ Six Nations campaign in 2025. This decision comes as Alex King will not be part of Warren Gatland’s coaching team for the tournament. King, who was appointed in December 2022, will not continue in his role for this competition, with no official reason given by the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) for his absence.

New Additions to Gatland’s Coaching Team

As part of the revamping of Warren Gatland’s coaching team, scrum specialist Adam Jones from Harlequins has joined Wales’ backroom staff on a secondment. Additionally, psychology and human performance specialist Andy McCann has been appointed for the tournament. Mike Forshaw and Neil Jenkins will continue in their defence and skills roles.

Howley’s Return to Wales Set-Up

Rob Howley returned to the Wales set-up in December 2023 as a technical coach after serving a ban for betting breaches. Howley, who was a key part of the successful Gatland era between 2008 and 2019, has also toured three times as the British and Irish Lions’ attack coach.

Wales’ Recent Performance

Wales have been facing challenges on the field, having not won a Test match since the 2023 World Cup. The team is currently on a record 12-game international losing streak, looking to turn their fortunes around in the upcoming Six Nations tournament.

Upcoming Match Against France

Warren Gatland’s side is set to kick off their 2025 Six Nations campaign against France in Paris on Friday, 31 January at 20:15 GMT. This match will be a crucial test for the team as they aim to start the tournament on a positive note and break their losing streak.
