Rob Howley Takes Over as Wales Attack Coach

Rob Howley has been appointed as the attack coach for Wales in the upcoming 2025 Six Nations tournament, replacing Alex King in the backroom team. King, who was initially appointed in December 2022 after Stephen Jones departed, will not be involved in this year’s coaching team. The Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) has not provided an official reason for King’s absence, as former Wales attack coach Howley steps into his previous role.

Revamped Coaching Team Under Warren Gatland

Warren Gatland, the head coach of Wales, has revamped his coaching team for the upcoming tournament. In addition to Howley taking over as the attack coach, scrum specialist Adam Jones from Harlequins has joined Wales’ backroom staff on a secondment. Moreover, psychology and human performance specialist Andy McCann has been appointed for the tournament, while Mike Forshaw and Neil Jenkins will continue in their defence and skills roles.

Return of Rob Howley to Wales Set-Up

Rob Howley, who returned to the Wales set-up in December 2023 as a technical coach after serving a ban for betting breaches, has a rich history with the team. He was a key part of the successful Gatland era between 2008 and 2019, which included three Grand Slams and a fourth Six Nations title. Howley also toured three times as the British and Irish Lions attack coach.

Wales will be looking to break their 12-game international losing streak as they kick off their 2025 campaign against France in Paris on Friday, 31 January (20:15 GMT). With a revamped coaching team led by experienced figures like Howley, Gatland’s side will be aiming to turn their fortunes around and secure a much-needed victory.
